Year 6 Transition Resources
At Gordonbrock, we are determined to ensure that ALL children in Year 6 will have access to a programme of transition work before the end of the Summer Term.
We want to do everything that we can to ensure that, in these rather unusual times, the children are as prepared as they can be for their move to Year 7.
‘Be Awesome, Go Big’
(a project from PiXL Club and Hachette Children’s Group).
Be Awesome, Go Big is a package to help Year 6 students transition into Year 7. The resources are based on bestselling children’s books You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed and Go Big: The Secondary School Survival Guide by Matthew Burton. You do not have to have the book – everything that your child needs is availbale to download below
Please note that there are 9 sessions in total: sessions will be uploaded on a weekly basis.
'Onwards and Upwards'

In this final term, we would usually invite the Bigfoot Theatre Company to come into school to present a transition performance called Upwards and Onwards. Obviously, under the present circumstances, this will not be happening.
Fortunately, the Bigfoot Theatre Company have recorded the presentation for use in school or at home and we have purchased the right to show it.
The Big Foot Theatre Company say:
Upwards & Onwards provides a humorous insight into the various concerns associated with moving on, as well as a variety of strategies to cope with it; this play presents the perfect opportunity to celebrate new beginnings in a positive and enjoyable way.

‘Transition to Secondary School Booklet’
Drumbeat have developed a resource pack to support vulnerable students with social communication difficulties, including autistic students, transitioning to secondary school next term. The resource pack, developed by outreach adviser Wendy Pearson, is also accompanied by an introductory film.
With the current situation and under present restrictions it is even more important to try to prepare our young people for the demands of secondary school. Children will probably not have the same opportunities as in typical years to visit their schools and familiarise themselves with new members of staff as well as school layout and routines. Although this resource was created with children with SEND in mind, it can be used to support all children with their transition to secondary school.
