Nature of Support 2013-2014

The funding received from Pupil Premium is allocated throughout the school year. At the end of the Spring term is has been allocated in the following ways:

 

Leadership and Management

  • The Deputy Head for Inclusion oversees the organisation of all additional provision, allocating resources purposefully and monitoring and evaluating the impact of all provision.  DH also reports termly to Governors.
  • There is a link governor for pupil premium children who monitors the provision and its impact.
  • The School Improvement Plan includes actions to ensure long term strategic planning to close the attainment gap.
  • Prepare information for parents and governors
  • Record PP children on to Assessment system
  • Track PP children for progress towards 2/3 levels progress from KS1-KS2
  • Track back Ever 6 pupils
  • Track/monitor PP budget
  • A new focus from AHT & SENCo on pupils who are both PP and SEND

 

School level provision

  • Both full-time Learning Mentors support Pupil Premium children in class and then work with children and their families during the afternoon sessions.
  • Pupil Premium children are regularly targeted and tracked thoroughly to ensure that they make good progress in line with their peers. Pupil Progress meetings are held termly (more regularly for years 2 & 6) and Pupil Premium children are discussed individually.
  • There is a link governor for pupil premium children who monitors the provision and its impact.
  • The School Improvement Plan includes actions to ensure long term strategic planning to close the attainment gap.
  • Track/monitor the Pupil Premium budget ensuring that all children are targeted.
  • In order to raise self-esteem and give opportunities to develop speaking and listening skills, we ensure the proportion of pupil premium children who are chosen to be monitors and visitor guides at least matches the proportion of the school population (25%)
  • We ensure that underachieving pupil premium children are well represented in the decision making processes of the school, so for example they are coached and mentored to enable them to be active participants of the school council.

 

Class level provision

School ensures that phase leaders monitor Free School Meals pupils for provision and that teachers are aware of who the Pupil Premium children in their classes are. Children will then receive some/all of the following support:

  • individual tuition
  • adult mentors
  • pre-teaching/enrichment/trips to ensure full access to the curriculum.
  • language/vocabulary enrichment focus.
  • reading buddies
  • booster groups
  • targeted adult support in small groups
  • additional TA hours
  • learning mentor/home school support time focussed on under-achieving Pupil Premium children and families

 

Enrichment opportunities

School tracks the uptake of all Out of School Learning for Pupil Premium children.  We remove barriers to participation by:

  • Funding 20% places in each club
  • Subsidising school trips and journeys
  • ICT lunchtime clubs for children who do not have internet access at home.
  • CCHF holiday scheme. Autumn term – 3 children in KS2 benefitted from this scheme. Spring term – further children benefitted from this scheme after specific targeting of families and discussions within the Inclusion Team.
  • In November 2013 KS2 Pupil Premium children were chosen to go to meet the Lewisham mayor. Pupil Premium children were also invited to turn on the Christmas lights in CroftonPark. Pupil Premium children were offered free pantomime tickets. In March, 17 children were taken to see Stomp and then worked with our Samba teacher in the summer term to create their own version of Stomp which was performed at the Summer Fair.

 

Federation Opportunities

Both Deputy Heads for Inclusion attended a national Pupil Premium course in January 2013 and have since made contact with the head teacher from PakemanPrimary School in Islington, who were crowned the best primary school in the country for the way it makes use of the Pupil Premium in 2013.

Deputy Head at Gordonbrock attended training on Assertive Mentoring to further enhance our work with Pupil Premium children and their families. Work has begun with children in years 4, 5& 6.

In recognition of our exceptional teaching practice, particularly for disadvantaged children, we were awarded the London Schools Gold Club Award. The results for those children demonstrate the high level of expertise and commitment of our staff to ensuring every child achieves.
