Our Lady of Saint Philip Neri 0-1 Gordonbrock: Boys of the match: Matthew for keeping the ball out of the net at a crucial part of the game and George for a magnificent goal.
The team from Our Lady had a strong defence and an excellent goal keeper and the Gordonbrock boys struggled to make any headway towards their net. The boys from Our Lady had several chances at scoring and it was only the safe hands of Matthew which kept the score at 0-0 at half time. In the second half, after a pep talk from Jason, the boys began to wake up and take control. Sid made a brilliant recovery to take the ball after a fall. Then a scuffle in the midfield resulted in George taking the ball and putting it decisively in the back of the net. There were cheers and sighs of relief from the side lines. Once that goal went in, the boys played with more commitment and we saw some good passing from Sid to Darius resulting in another try at goal for George but, this one was saved. Edward’s mum and I enjoyed watching the short interlude when Matthew kicked the ball all the way up the pitch, where it was intercepted by the Our Lady goalie and kicked straight back towards Matthew again.
Baring 0-3 Gordonbrock: Boy of the match: Sid for excellent ball skills and true determination throughout the match.
The boys went straight from one match to the next with no rest today. Since they were excited after the first match they were raring to go. The team started well, pushing up the pitch from the beginning. Edward and Sid tried to score early on but, both hit the post. Sid passed to Darius, who pushed the ball to Leo. Leo aimed but, it went high over the goal. The first goal came from Sid’s corner, Leo took the ball and gently pushed it into the net. Darius and Edward started to pass to each other and Sid skilfully took the ball around an opposing player, his aim was good but, annoyingly, the ball went just across the front of the goal instead of going in. There were so many chances for our team but, the excellent Our Ladies goalie kept on saving them, until Edward got one past him. This was quickly followed by another goal from Darius, making the final score 3-0 to Gordonbrock. Winning those two matches puts the boys in a good position to win the league! We are all looking forward to meeting up again on Blackheath to see the boys continue their run of victories.
Well done to: Matthew, Beren, Archie, Sean, Edward, Darius, Ollie, Oliver, George, Sid (Captain), and Leo.
Thank you once again to Jason for his excellent coaching and to the parents and carers who are always there to cheer on the team.
